The Journey Begins Here

The Meeting Point is an Integrative Health Clinic started by Mary Anne Matta and Dr. Steve Matta. Theirs is a true marriage of eastern and western medical approaches. Mary Anne & Dr. Steve daily refine their craft into a medicine that is worthy to offer their patients and clients. They do not follow protocols, but treat each patient individually, adjusting and tuning each treatment as they progress from week to week towards regeneration.

Because you matter. Your body is fearfully and wonderfully made and there is only one you. Why would you be treated with a protocol or stamped with a diagnosis that does not fit your unique constitution? What we all need is an approach that is customized, individualized, and personalized. We need the kind of medicine that gives the practitioner and the patient breathing room to understand each other.   So welcome to The Meeting Point! We hope all your roads diverge here to better health, community, and new friends!

When you come to Meeting Point, you get the benefit of our total integration of Eastern and Western Medicine. In fact, Mary Anne & Dr. Steve often co-treat their clients, which results in better treatment outcomes and faster recovery.  Depending on your condition, you will receive any combination of the techniques and treatments listed below:

After initially receiving her Masters in Statistics & Research from the University of Pennsylvania, Mary Anne spent several years in teaching and research, when she became a stay-at-home mother of two children. She understands the wiles and joys of motherhood and family life, and what it is like to press on while wearing several hats.  She has had an adventurous life traveling all over the world in Africa, Asia, South America and Europe, learning languages, doing missions, and teaching. All those life experiences have woven together to uniquely define Mary Anne as someone who understands the diversity of life and its problems.

She specializes in all the facets of care related to the health of women, teens, and kids. And because she and her husband treat the whole family, she sometimes treats everyone at once! Feel free to check out her personal web page after you’ve thoroughly perused Meeting Point Health.

Understanding the Role of Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a safe effective treatment for a variety of conditions. It works by stimulating the body’s own healing response, moving red and white blood cells to a hurting area, changing the central and peripheral nerve response, and regulating neurotransmitters. When the needle (which is extremely thin and virtually painless) is inserted in the body, it effectively passes through several bodily systems including skin, fascia, adipose, muscle, blood and nerve tissue. Each of these systems is influenced by the manipulation of an acupuncture needle. We don’t use this language to throw out a lot of scientific jargon, but to demonstrate the physical nature of this medicine. There is a wealth of scientific research to support the use of acupuncture to effect physiological changes in the body. In fact, the World Health Organization and the National Institutes of Health recommend acupuncture for many conditions.

Many people are curious about what acupuncture can do for them. Needles are just one of the many interventions in our toolbox to treat disharmonies in the body. We also use cupping, gua sha (which is a friction-type massage using a flat tool), herbs, electrostimulation, heat therapy,  supplements, medical massage including Shiatsu and Tui Na, corrective exercise, and stress-reducing techniques such as breathing work.

What can acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture treats many things from anxiety to concussion, fertility, digestive complaints, acute & chronic pain, headaches, children and everything in between.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Institute of Health (NIH) have concluded that acupuncture is effective in treating numerous conditions. How is this possible? Think of it this way – because needles can be inserted just about anywhere, they can also effect change in just about anything

Here is a great video about some of the most treatable conditions acupuncture can help with:

Meet Dr. Steve Matta

Dr. Steve Matta is an Integrative Osteopathic Medical physician licensed and board certified in Primary Care and Sports Medicine. He looks at medicine as both a science and an art. Everybody is different and he treats each patient like a puzzle.  Dr. Matta will not slap on a diagnosis and hand you a prescription.  Because his approach to medicine is both integrative and holistic, it means he does not do surgery, give any steroid or cortisone injections and does not prescribe narcotic pain medications. Instead, he relies on the information from your in-depth physical examination and story to figure out what the pathology is, whether it be musculoskeletal, neural, hormonal, or pathogenic.

Who do you see?
Everyone. Dr. Matta sees executives, athletes, coaches, teachers, chefs, dentists, musicians, artists, photographers, as well as runners, cyclists, dancers, your regular old Joe (or Jane) etc etc etc …. you get the point! Anyone who gets hurt or wants to feel great will benefit from his services.

What kind of conditions do you treat?
The most common thing treated is some sort of muscle, bone, or joint pain.  Other conditions like concussions, overtraining, nutritional/digestive problems and many other things that don’t necessarily fall into these categories are also treatable.  In addition, he also counsels individuals who don’t necessarily have pain but are experiencing symptoms like fatigue and stress.

What treatments do you offer?
The treatment must always be tailored to the individual. You will receive a full metabolic and movement assessment to understand the pathology,  Osteopathic Manipulation to help increase the mobility of an area that is restricted and alleviate pain, and other therapies such as Cupping and Dry needling. Injections therapies are also highly effective. Dr. Matta uses steroid-free trigger point injections with lidocaine (an anesthetic), prolotherapy and/or a homeopathic injectable. These modalities are normally combined with Corrective Exercise that I prescribe for you to do at home, in addition to nutritional and lifestyle counseling.

Anything Else?
Yes. Dr. Matta loves to educate his patients. This means he will spend more time with you and likely discuss nutrition, sleep, supplementation, breathing, meditation, etc. with his patients to make sure that there is nothing in their life that is either hindering their progress or causing them pain.  In addition, he will also look at lab work to see if there are other things going on that are mediating the condition.

In addition to reading about Dr. Matta here, you can also learn more about him on his own website.  Schedule an appointment for a no-cost initial consultation.  Also check out his blog to learn more.
