What is Dysport®?

How does Dysport® work?

Dysport is a cosmetic injection derived from botulinum toxin type A, a neurotoxin that can be administered safely in small amounts. The injections block muscle contractions, allowing the muscles under your skin to relax. This process prevents contractions and muscle movements that form creases and lines in the skin.
It works by relaxing the muscles under the skin around your brow line. By making the muscles less stiff, the skin is able to relax and take on a less wrinkled appearance.

What can Dysport® treat?

Dysport® is used primarily to diminish the appearance of wrinkles and prevent new wrinkles from forming on your face. It’s particularly effective in treating wrinkles around the brow area, reducing frown lines and creating a smoother appearance.

Dysport® is FDA-approved for use in five areas around the brow line, including:

Between the eyebrows
Above the inner corner of each eyebrow
Just above the center of each brow
Lines that appear in these areas are called glabellar lines because they form due to the contraction and movement of the glabella muscles located between the eyebrows and forehead.

What are the benefits of Dysport®

Dysport helps by softening the features in the brow area by reducing the appearance of wrinkles. This can help create a much more youthful look and eliminate the effects of years of stress.

Other benefits include:

Nonsurgical and minimally invasive
Procedure takes just minutes
Natural-looking results
Noticeable results within a few days
Results last up to four months

Botox® vs Dysport®

Dysport® is a little more concentrated than Botox and so it lasts a little bit longer, though individual results may vary. Not only does Dysport® last longer but it has a lower incidence of inflammation- meaning less chance for muscle weakness. It also spreads out a little more when injected which can make the injection a bit more comfortable for some patients.

What is the procedure like?

Receiving Dysport® injections is a quick, minimally invasive procedure. First, a medical specialist will determine where to administer the injections. There are up to five points between and above your eyebrows they may choose, depending on your unique needs.

Next, they’ll treat the injection points with a local anesthetic to numb the area and prepare the syringes while it takes effect. They’ll then administer the injections to the predetermined sites.

What to expect after the procedure?

Unless you experience immediate side effects, it’s safe to leave right after the procedure is finished.

Minor side effects are common, such as slight pain or irritation around the injection site. These effects should last no more than a few days. We recommend you avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area.

You should begin to see noticeable improvement in the treated areas within a few days.

What are the results of Dysport®?

The effects of Dysport have been clinically demonstrated to last up to 5 months after proper injection and post-treatment care. The most significant results often appear after 30 days, in which case a majority of users should be able to notice a marked improvement on the appearance of wrinkles and frown lines.

Dysport® is a long-lasting treatment for moderate to deep lines between and above the eyebrows. It’s quick and minimally invasive to administer, and the results last for several months after treatment. If you have no contraindications to receiving treatments, it’s an effective option for smoothing away frown lines and other wrinkles on the forehead.

You may receive anywhere from 30 to 60 units of Dysport® in a single session. This amount may seem like more than products like Botox®, but it’s actually the same volume. Dysport® is just measured using a different unit of measurement.

Dysport® and Xeomin® are both made from the same botulinum toxin type A. The difference is that Xeomin® is a “naked” molecule meaning that it doesn’t have any added proteins (like cow’s milk protein). Some people are allergic to cow’s milk protein so they may prefer Xeomin®. Because it has no added proteins, Xeomin® is a better choice for people with autoimmune conditions or an overactive immune system.

The best candidate is someone who is not allergic to any of its ingredients and has not had any serious work done to their brow line in the past. If wrinkles can be easily smoothed by spreading them apart, and there are no deep facial scars, then a person should also be a good candidate for Dysport®.
There is a small risk that patients with autoimmune issues may have an increased reaction to the neurotoxin. Your doctor will assess your risks and benefits and decide if neurotoxin is the best treatment for you. Autoimmune patients often do better with Xeomin® because it lacks the added proteins that both Botox® and Dysport® are formulated with. Some patients with inflammation or autoimmune conditions can react to these added proteins and be more inflamed with Botox® treatments.

Common side effects include:

  • Nose and throat irritation
  • Headache
  • Injection site pain
  • Injection site irritation
  • Upper respiratory infection
  • Swollen eyelids
  • Drooping eyelids
  • Inflamed sinuses
  • Nausea

If you experience any of these symptoms for a prolonged period, or if they become unbearable, seek medical attention immediately.

You don’t! The team at Meeting Point Health will review your history and medications and help you make the right choice for treatment. We’ll make sure the treatment is beneficial, safe and right for you.

Meeting Point Health does not accept insurance.

Our practitioners and staff fully understand and empathize with the challenges that patients face as they make financial decisions for proper health care. Our practice is very different from a conventional medical practice in many ways, but the time spent with each patient is usually 30-90 minutes. Visits with a physician covered by insurance generally allow for less than 10 minutes in total! Conventional medical practices that take insurance maintain brief office visits and high patient loads for this reason. We cannot provide the expert care that every one of our patients deserves under those circumstances.

Insurance also dictates the types of treatments and order of treatments patients can receive for a particular condition.

Opting out of insurance allows the patient and the doctor to maintain their medical autonomy, which is imperative to ensure you get the right treatment at the right time and the right dose.

Good news! If you have out-of-network insurance benefits, you can submit your receipts for potential reimbursement. Depending on your plan, you may receive a percentage of the cost of your visit back either as a reimbursement check in the mail from the insurance company (or an equivalent amount applied to your out-of-network deductible, if applicable). Some plans reimburse up to 80%! All you have to do is ask the front desk for an insurance receipt after your visit.

To start your journey to relief, schedule a consultation with our team. During your initial visit, we’ll assess your medical history, perform a thorough evaluation, and develop a customized treatment plan to address your specific needs.
