Ozone Therapy Q & A

What is ozone therapy?

Ozone therapy is a treatment that introduces high levels of oxygen into your body to promote healing. Ozone is a gas that has a slightly different chemical composition to oxygen, and it produces the most potent form of oxygen available. Medical ozone is a safe and effective alternative to antibiotics.

Research into the use of ozone shows that it's an effective method of treating pathogens that cause disease, such as:

  • Bacteria
  • Viruses
  • Fungi
  • Protozoa (single-cell life forms)

Ozone therapy stimulates your body's natural healing cascade — a function of your immune system that produces healthy new tissue.

Is ozone therapy safe?

When properly diagnosed, dosed, and administered by trained and qualified physicians, ozone therapy is safer than any other drug on the market, including aspirin. In addition, because ozone has a short half-life, any unused ozone reverts back to oxygen in minutes.

How do I receive ozone therapy?

Your provider at Meeting Point uses medical-grade oxygen that passes through a generator to convert a small portion (2-3%) of the oxygen into ozone. You can then receive ozone therapy one of several ways:

When treating systemic conditions, intravenous (IV) delivery gets the ozone directly into your bloodstream. Your blood is drawn, heparinized, mixed with oxygen and ozone, then dripped back to you. The oxygenated blood is often combined with Light Therapy, also called Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation (UBI). This combination is especially important for biotoxin illness and chronic infection with inflammation.

Insufflation is a term that means blowing the ozone into your body. Ozone can be insufflated into your nose, ear, rectum, or vagina. Intestinal insufflation (via rectum) is very effective in treating digestive disorders and is nearly as effective as IV ozone.

Meeting Point also offers ozone joint therapy, also called Prolozone.

What is Prolozone?

Prolozone uses a combination of procaine (a local anesthetic), dextrose, B vitamins, oxygen, and ozone. It stimulates the growth factors in damaged tissues to promote healing. Meeting Point often uses injectable ozone as a pre-treatment or follow-up to PRP therapy to encourage faster joint healing.

Prolozone therapy treatments can regenerate cartilage, so it has proven to be effective in treating osteoarthritis in your hips or knees. Prolozone isn't just a treatment for pain — it addresses the underlying cause of your pain and could even resolve it.
